What it is

The Agilent 6890 GC incorporates electronic pneumatic control (EPC) for precise regulation of gas pressures and flows. Onboard sensors compensate for ambient temperature and barometric pressure changes to improve reproducibility. The system can accommodate up to two inlets and up to three detectors.[3][1]

How it works

The Agilent 6890 GC oven can be programmed from 4 to 450 °C with up to 20 ramps and 21 plateaus. Fast ramp rates up to 75 °C per minute are possible. The oven can cool from 300 °C to 50 °C in 4.5 minutes. Electronic pneumatic control regulates carrier and detector gases to 0.001 psi and 0.05 mL/min.[3][1][5]

The 6890 GC supports detectors including flame ionization detector (FID), thermal conductivity detector (TCD), micro-electron capture detector (μ-ECD), nitrogen-phosphorus detector (NPD), and flame photometric detector (FPD). The system can be configured with up to three detectors simultaneously, although typical configurations carry one or two.[3][1]

Applications

Typical applications for the Agilent 6890 GC include hydrocarbon analysis in petrochemicals, pesticide residue analysis in environmental samples, solvent testing in pharmaceuticals, terpene profiling in cannabis, and volatile organic compound (VOC) analysis in air and water matrices.[3][1]
