Single-lens reflex digital camera[1]

How it works

In a DSLR camera, a movable mirror directs light from the lens into an optical viewfinder. When the shutter is released, the mirror lifts and light strikes the image sensor to capture the exposure. The D5500 uses an eye-level pentamirror single-lens reflex viewfinder. The camera employs TTL exposure metering using a 2,016-pixel RGB sensor. The autofocus system is a Nikon Multi-CAM 4800DX module with TTL phase detection.[2][1]

The camera records images in JPEG or NEF (RAW) format, including simultaneous RAW+JPEG capture. Storage is on SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory cards via a single card slot. The camera includes built-in Wi-Fi for wireless image transfer.[2][1]

Applications

The camera is compatible with a wide range of Nikon F-mount lenses, including AF-S and AF-I types. Autofocus is available only with AF-S and AF-I lenses. The DX-format sensor provides a crop factor relative to full-frame FX format.[2][1]
