The Leybold TD 20 Turbo Drive is an electronic frequency converter designed to drive turbomolecular pumps. The unit is also referred to as the Turbo.Drive TD20 classic. The frequency converter is manufactured by Leybold.[3][1][2]

How it works

The Turbo.Drive TD20 classic is an electronic frequency converter that converts single-phase mains voltage into a three-phase AC voltage with regulated frequency and amplitude. The generated three-phase AC voltage drives the three-phase asynchronous motor of the connected turbomolecular pump. The conversion produces a nominal motor voltage of 47 V.[1][2][4]

The TD 20 accepts a mains input of 100 to 240 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz. The power consumption of the frequency converter, including options, is less than 500 VA. The power consumption of the connected TURBOVAC pump is less than 400 VA. The motor current limitation is 5 A during acceleration (for a maximum of 10 minutes) and 3.5 A during continuous operation. The output frequency range is 0 to 835 Hz.[1][2][4]

The Turbo.Drive TD20 classic comes with a 9-way PLC interface as standard. The unit may also include an optional RS 232, Profibus, RS 485, 25-way PLC, DeviceNet, or Ethernet/IP interface. The frequency converter can be directly connected to mains voltage. The front panel includes a green STATUS LED, a yellow POWER LED, a red ERROR LED, an LED chain labeled LOAD, a SERVICE interface, an RS 232 interface, a START key, and a STOP key.[1][2]

Applications

The Turbo.Drive TD20 classic is used to drive Leybold TURBOVAC turbomolecular pumps of the following models: TURBOVAC 151, 151 C, 361, 361 C, TURBOVAC 600, 600 C, TURBOVAC 1000, 1000 C, and 1100 C. The frequency converter is not intended for use with other turbomolecular pumps.[1][2][4]
