What it is

The TDS8000B offers a bandwidth of DC to 70+ GHz. The instrument features a modular architecture supporting up to eight channels. The TDS8000B includes a large 10.4-inch full-color display and runs Windows 2000. The instrument uses a multi-processor design with dedicated per-channel digital signal processors.[4][5]

How it works

The TDS8000B timebase provides equivalent-time sweep speeds from 1.0 ps/div to 5 ms/div with record lengths from 20 to 4000 points. The sample interval can be as low as 10 femtoseconds (0.01 ps). The timebase can be locked to a 10 MHz reference for long-term stability. The instrument uses a multi-processor architecture with per-channel DSP to achieve high acquisition rates. Gated triggering is available as an option.[4][5]

Where it fits in the process flow

The TDS8000B is applied in semiconductor testing, impedance and crosstalk characterization using time-domain reflectometry, and high-speed digital data communications testing. The instrument can also be used for optical signal testing with appropriate plug-in modules.[4][5]

Applications

Applications of the TDS8000B include semiconductor device testing, time-domain reflectometry characterization of circuit boards, IC packages, and cables. The instrument supports high-speed digital communications testing. Optical modules enable testing of telecom signals from 155 Mb/s to 43 Gb/s and datacom signals such as Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, and Gigabit Ethernet.[4][5]
