A controlled heat treatment used to repair crystal damage after ion implantation, electrically activate dopants, densify deposited films, form silicides, or relieve stress. Anneals range from long furnace cycles to rapid thermal, spike, flash, and laser anneals with progressively shorter thermal budgets.
