What it is

The GCA 3696 is a step-and-repeat camera, also known as a photorepeater, manufactured by Mann/GCA. The GCA 3696 was one of the first such systems produced. The instrument can be configured to expose photoresist-coated glass plates for photomask fabrication.[2][1]

How it works

The GCA 3696 projects an image of a reticle onto a photoresist-coated glass plate and steps the plate to expose an array of identical die patterns. The system is built around a Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-11/04 minicomputer and uses a 9280 Interface Chassis. Operator control is via a VT100 console terminal, and data storage is on 8-inch floppy disk drives. When configured as a photorepeater, the system accommodates glass plates up to 7 inches in size.[1][2]
